Our Story

Welcome to Mesquite Women's Clinic

Mesquite Women’s Clinic was started in 2004 by Dr Edward Ofori to provide comprehensive women’s health care in a growing community with no such health care and a brand new hospital. Women in Mesquite and the surrounding Virgin Valley Communities had to drive to either St George or Las Vegas for their healthcare prior to 2004.

The Impact of the Loss of Obstetric Services in 2018

In 2018, after 12 years of providing both obstetric and gynecological services our local rural hospital became one of the casualties of the cessation of obstetric services in the nation. Mesquite Women’s Clinic has bridged the gap for our patients by continuing to provide obstetric prenatal and postpartum services for Mesquite and the surrounding communities. We offer ultrasound services and antenatal testing for high risk pregnancies in our office. We still have to drive to St George Regional Hospital to deliver our babies.

Midwifery Program and Future Plans

We have developed a robust midwifery program with one midwife, with plans for a second midwife (who currently works as a Nurse Practitioner in our office to transition to her midwife role). Dr Ofori also works as a High Risk Laborist for the hospital in St George.

Our Gynecologic Practice

Our gynecologic practice continues to grow. We offer diagnostic gynecologic procedures in the office that decrease out of pocket costs for our patients. Our expertise in pelvic floor, bladder and menopausal issues have been of excellent value to our community. All gynecologic surgical procedures are performed in our local hospital. We are able to expedite and prioritize surgical procedures at our local hospital due to the long years of excellent care the hospital has provided. Come see us at Mesquite Womens Clinic.

Bio

Edward Ofori OB/GYN Physician

Dr Ofori grew up in Ghana West Africa. He attended the prestigious Presbyterian Boys Secondary School and Science College In Ghana. Obtained a BSc Biology at Prairie View University Benjamin Banneker Honors College. He started graduate program in Counseling and Sociology while he worked as a Case Worker for the Texas Department of Children’s Protective Services. Dr Ofori attended Medical school at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and Completed residency training in Obstetrics and gynecology at Texas Tech University Health Science Center Permian Basin. Dr Ofori is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Member of the American Academy of Gynecologic Laparoscopists and Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Elizabeth “Buffy” Taylor

Dr. Elizabeth “Buffy” Taylor, DNP, WHNP-BC, is a Nurse Practitioner with 27 years of experience dedicated to comprehensive women’s health care. Dr. Taylor earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Utah, where her doctoral project—focused on perinatal depression and optimal support strategies for this population—received special recognition and awards.

Jennifer Smolens, CNM

I am a board certified nurse midwife who loves educating and preparing you for birth. I’m committed to supporting your choices and empowering you with the knowledge and confidence you need. My approach combines evidence-based care with compassionate support. I believe the best outcomes arise when patients are active participants in their own health journey. This is why I will listen carefully to your concerns and preferences, and explain all treatment options in clear, everyday language. We will collaborate and select a plan that aligns with your values and goals.

Tiffany Turner Physician Assistant

Tiffany is a board-certified Physician Assistant specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology who is passionate about supporting women’s health across every stage of life. Originally from Southern California, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Exercise Science from California State University, Monterey Bay, and her Master of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Utah. Her early commitment to service included volunteering with underserved communities and leading an equine therapy program for children and adults with special needs.

With more than 21 years of service as a medic in the U.S. Air Force, Tiffany brings a calm, compassionate, and highly skilled approach to patient care. She completed three overseas deployments, providing care during in-flight medical emergencies and coordinating aeromedical evacuation missions to ensure injured service members received timely, definitive treatment.

In her OB/GYN practice, Tiffany provides preventive and problem focused gynecologic care, contraception counseling, prenatal and postpartum care, perimenopause, menopause, HRT management, and more. She is dedicated to providing comprehensive, patient-centered care with a strong emphasis on education, prevention, and shared decision-making. She strives to create a welcoming environment where patients feel heard, informed, and empowered in their healthcare choices. Outside of work, Tiffany enjoys spending time with her family, hiking with her two dogs, horseback riding, and snowboarding.
